Many years ago while in art school in Poland, I
formed an Art Group, with seven other weavers. Together we had many exhibits; Wroclaw, Warsaw
etc. Unfortunately, when I left Poland, the
group stopped exhibiting. For years, I was thinking with a great nostalgia about how wonderful it would be to form another
art group. Two years ago, I started to exhibit together with my friend Marie Constance Morley as
“Harmony Two”, and that was the beginning. In spring 2003, I called several friends, who are all textile
artists, and asked them if they would like to be included in my project of forming an international Fiber Art Group.
They all agreed with great enthusiasm and we made a proposal for a show at the Visual Art Center in
Ottawa-Orleans. We were accepted and the exhibit took place in September 2003. The show “Harmony”,
(the same as the name of the group) was a mix of traditional and experimental textile art: tapestry and woven art, hand-painted
silk and handstitched collage appliqué.
Our next exhibit was in Wroclaw –
“Gallery of Word and Image”, Poland in
March-April 2004. We were also accepted for the May-June 2004 University of Mexico Gallery in Hull, Quebec.
Our next exhibit - "Fiber Fairytales" took place at the Atrium Gallery and Center Point Theatre in Ottawa in March
2005.
They were very rewarding shows. “Harmony” got
many nice comments and lot of attention.
Fiber Fairytale continues...
